Increasing numbers of DER connections are made to the distribution network. This affects power flows and fault levels at primary and grid substations. Consequently it presents a number of challenges for the distribution network protection system. This presentation looks at challenges imposed on legacy protection system performance and innovative protection solution to unlock more capacity for DER connections.

Mr. Ivan Bolotkov

Ivan Bolotkov is a power system professional and entrepreneur with significant experience in protection system application and configuration, commissioning management and power system engineering in the UK Electricity Industry. He attained the MSc in Sustainable Electrical Power from the Brunel University in 2007. He has worked in various technical and managing roles in major OEMs and EPCs. He was in charge of innovation sourcing and development for the UK DNOs in Energy Innovation Centre. In his current role he works as Protection Engineer delivering protection solution for electrical assets in UKPN.
