GE Vernova UK Evolution of Power System Protection & Life Cycle Management

Industry Lecture by John Wright

On the 27th February 2025, the UoM IEEE PES SBC welcomed John Wright, Europe and Africa Technical Application Engineering Leader with GE Vernova UK, to campus for a fascinating talk titled “Evolution of Power System Protection and Life Cycle Management.” Co-hosted by the University of Manchester’s CIGRE student group, the event attracted students across research and academic levels. Presenting to over 40 attendees, John Wright discussed timely topics and their relevance to the changing power systems landscape.

The lecture discussed power system protection from traditional to modern applications, including the new management of these systems and the full lifecycle of installation and decommissioning. John Wright’s talk attracted questions from both students and researchers in the fields of energy systems and power system protection. The event provided students with a glimpse into the power and energy sector, presenting opportunities for professional development.
