MEEPS 2025 — Energising Change: Smart Transitions for a Sustainable Future

The University of Manchester IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter is pleased to announce that the Manchester Energy and Electrical Power Systems Research Symposium 2025 will be held on November 6 and 7, 2025, in Manchester, UK. This year’s theme of Energising Change: Smart Transitions for a Sustainable Future seeks to bring together industrial partners, academic experts, and community leaders to engage in a meaningful exchange of ideas, all to answer, “What can we expect of our energy future and how are we preparing for it?”

We are excited to extend this year’s event to a two-day format. Day 1 will feature research presentations, a poster session, and networking with industry sponsors. Day 2 will feature a workshop led by our Platinum Sponsor, presenting attendees with a real-world engineering problem for them to solve and present to our panel of industry and academic experts.

Who we are

The Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Power and Energy Society (PES) Student Branch Chapter at The University of Manchester was officially launched on 28 June 2012. As the first SBC in the UK and Ireland Section, the PES group at UoM is one of the most active SBCs in the Section and comprises more members than any other UK university-based SBC. We are based within the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering at The University of Manchester. The committee is strongly supported by the IEEE PES UK&I Section and boasts strong connections with industrial partners and other SBCs across the country.

History of MEEPS

MEEPS has been held annually since 2013 and is widely recognized as an exceptional platform for researchers and young professionals in the Power and Energy Sector to showcase their work and exchange knowledge regarding the future trends of power systems research. We are proud to host the leading premier student-led symposium in the IEEE PES UK and Republic of Ireland Section. In 2024, the event attracted over 50 attendees from 10+ universities around the world, with delegates from across the UK and Europe.
